One Band, One Sound

Music Council of Malaysia was formed in 1994 due to concert banning issue that was to be exercised or executed by the Malaysian Government. The fore-founders of the Music Council were Persatuan Penyanyi Pemuzik Penulis Lagu Tanahair (PAPITA), Malaysia Association of Live Entertainment Promoters (MALEP), Music Union of Malaysia (MUM) and Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM).

Then in November 3, 1997 the Music Council of Malaysia was officially registered.

Music Council of Malaysia was established for these reasons below:

Unifying and uniting various sectors of the music industry under one umbrella becoming one voice for matters concerning the progress of the industry as a whole.

Creating a platform and representing the music industry, becoming a channel for consultations and expertise at its required place and time, and in managing the expectation of the industry in general.

Concerned with the welfare of artists, musicians and composers as well as anyone involved in the industry to ensure their long-term basic needs given proper attention

Bridging concerns, voicing regulatory matters and negotiating with government bodies and agencies with regards to guidelines and policies in the music industry in general.

Taking into account the development of necessary infrastructure and facilities for the development of the music industry

Identifying, safe keeping and implementing the rights of performers and artistes in relations to intellectual properties and copy rights for all.

• Preparing the draft of the National Music Industry Association and approved melobikan for approval to the Cabinet in 2005.
• Lobbying for the reduction of entertainment tax from 25% to 5%.
• International workshop held jointly with the FIA and the FIM in the interests of artists.
• Conducting Sahsiah Seni courses for local artists.
• Conducting Youth Music Program held together Rakan Muda.
• Has been accepted as a member of the International Music Council (IMC).
• Organizer with the KL Music Festival (KPKKW) and local & foreign Introducing Artistes to perform, holding music Seminars.Penganjur bersama ASWARA’s National Music Seminar. Speakers, Dato’ A Rahman Hassan, Dato’ Aziz Bakar, Ong Peng Chu & Joe Chelliah.
• Working paper “Issues in the Music Industry that requires immediate attention and action” to PM.
• Taking part in the JKKN WP’s Cultural Hotspots in Central Market – Manager of artists – local artists in the launch and has received recognition as one of the NGO’s in Cultural Hotspot project.
• Co-organizer of a “KL Central’s Art” with KPKKW.
• Taking part in the congress MAHKOTA in Johor Bahru.
• Mengambil bahagian dalam WIPO’s National Seminar on Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights for the Performers.
• Taking part in JKKN WP’s Buka Puasa – Contributions to Orphans.
• Joined the Veteran’s Walk for Peace at PWTC organized by the Malaysian Armed Forces Veteran Council.Menyediakan Kertas kerja on Kl Music Festival 2009 (Music Week).
• Suppoted Global Peace Festival at Bukit Jalil.
• Organized “Gala Dinner’ at PWTC POCAM charitable purposes.
• Participating in PUSPAL’s Workshop Review Guidelines PUSPAL.
• Participating in seminars “Pelan CitraSihat” organized by the Ministry of Health and was preparing a working paper of CitraSihat for local artist.
• Participate in a program organized by KPKKW, the Accreditation for Local Artists
• Organized Artists Accreditation Program – Local artist in collaboration with KPKKW.
