Gem Helpline (formerly BGFCU) was established in 1992 as a community service to provide emotional support over the phone.  This is our Vision: A world where everyone feels heard, supported and able to find hope and connection. Following from that, this is our Mission: To provide compassionate, non-judgemental listening that empowers individuals to find their own strength and well-being.

Grounded in secular psychological and counselling principles, our volunteers are trained in Person-Centred Therapy to support callers experiencing emotional distress, mental health challenges, or difficult life situations. We offer a safe and confidential space where individuals can express themselves freely and be heard with empathy and respect.

We are committed to empowering people to take an active role in their mental well-being. As part of our community outreach efforts, we conduct talks, workshops, and training programmes throughout the year to raise awareness, promote mental health literacy, and foster emotional resilience within the community.
