Who are we

  • Established 19th September 2012 with the mission to facilitate social inclusion of marginalised people on a global basis
  • A social enterprise (SE) licensed by the Dialogue Social Enterprise (Germany) authorised to hold exhibitions and business workshops in Malaysia
  • SEs are businesses that trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s life chances, or/and the environment. SEs make money from selling goods and services in the open market, but SEs reinvests profits back into the business or the local community
  • The DID exhibition centre at Petrosains, Suria KLCC was launched on the 8th of December 2013
  • DID’s new and permanent venue at The School, Jaya One opened its doors to public on 1st July 2014
  • To achieve our goals, DID conducts exhibitions and business workshops as means to create a sustainable revenue stream
  • DID hires visually impaired (VI) guides and trainers, and by creating job opportunities, give them a chance at a better life
  • Every ringgit earned from conducting DID business workshops and sales of tickets from DID exhibitions are reinvested back to facilitate training and to create even more job opportunities for the VIs
  • Part of the profits are channelled to DID beneficiaries – Save Ones Sight Missions Berhad (SOSM), Dogs for Sight (DFS) and The Academy of Light

Our vision and mission

  • Our goal is to raise awareness and create tolerance for “otherness” in the general public, thereby overcoming barriers between “us” and “them”
  • We create jobs for disadvantaged people by turning deficits into potentials and thereby strengthening their self-esteem

Our activities

  • First ever training workshop to be conducted in complete darkness
  • The reversal of roles urges the participants to adapt to the environment and helps one test the limits to a tangible experience by combining both emotional intelligence and social ability
  • Communication, leadership, diversity and team-building are the key elements fostered in this workshop

  • A unique “Experiential Journey” exhibition designed to leave a long term impact
  • Visitors are guided by VI guides through darken rooms replicating environments of every day life with nothing but a white-cane in their hand and the voice of their guide
  • The objective is for visitors to understand sightlessness and change their perspective in life towards the VIs and the underprivileged

  • DID’s SPP is a promising collaboration between DID and private corporations with the sole aim to provide a sustainable platform for long-term CSR commitments between both partners
  • DID’s 25 years of internationally acclaimed CSR and Social Business model adds credibility and nevertheless strengthens their commitment to their SPP CSR projects
