Back in 2015, our founder Abbie had a vision to help the people of her own native communities in Kuching, especially the younger generation, to earn better income by tapping into the natural attractions around their villages and market them as exotic tourism products. She has seen many youths wasting their lives loafing around the village or working as odd job workers. Abbie wanted to encourage more village folks to participate in the tourism industry while ensuring the cultural traditions that made her people special lives on. Hence, based on the concept of “having tours at your backyard, Backyard Tour was born and the team has never looked back since.

Backyard Tour wants to do more than just providing tours like everyone else; it is about balancing income from organising tours and giving back to the communities. Here, we design community-based tours with the local communities to give travellers a chance to experience the local flavour like never before. From jungle trekking through the Borneo rain forest, cooking with the local hosts, to spending the night in a village house, Backyard Tour promises truly authentic experience with the real born-and-bred-there villagers.
