Asylum Access Malaysia (AAM) was launched in 2014 as part of the Asylum Access family of organizations. Malaysia is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and does not have any legal or administrative framework for refugees and asylum seekers. There are currently about 150,000 refugees in Malaysia registered with the UNHCR. However, they are constantly at risk of arrest, deportation and exploitation.
